International Consortia

International Consortium of Orthopedic Registries (ICOR)

The International Consortium of Orthopedic Registries (ICOR) facilitates international registry stakeholder collaboration and development of innovative methodological approaches for conducting robust analytic studies to fill orthopedic evidence gaps. The ICOR was established in 2011 as a worldwide research consortium, to advance orthopedic medical device study methodology and conduct in a network of international registries and improve regulator understanding of orthopedic device safety and effectiveness. The network determines evidence gaps and questions and identifies datasets and approaches to conduct robust analytic studies to improve our understanding of orthopedic device performance. Members of ICOR, including data holders and researchers who advance orthopedic medical device study methods and infrastructure, have facilitated more than 3,500,000 orthopedic surgeries (featuring all implantable devices on the market), eight multinational studies and 30 published papers.

International Consortium of Cardiovascular Registries (ICCR)

The International Consortium of Cardiovascular Registries (ICCR) supports two major initiatives:

  1. The International Consortium of Transcatheter Valve Replacement (ICTVR).
  2. The International Consortium of Vascular Registries (ICVR).

These two initiatives provide a collaborative platform through which registry representatives and other stakeholders around the world can communicate, discuss data and methodology issues and use aggregate-level, innovative, analytic methods for conducting worldwide studies. Additionally, work facilitated with stakeholders, including manufacturers and regulators, improves worldwide understanding of the safety and effectiveness of aortic valves and vascular devices designed to be implanted less invasively. In order to promote this collaborative platform, ICTVR and ICVR representatives are creating one of the largest networks in the world - one that includes registries and academic centers with the investigative and clinical capabilities to tackle even the biggest cardiovascular device surveillance obstacles.

International Consortium of Vascular Registries (ICVR)

The International Consortium of Vascular Registries (ICVR) was launched in November 2014 at Cornell University as a partnership between manufacturers, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and more than 12 national registries. The ICVR provides a collaborative platform through which registry stakeholders around the world share data to improve vascular health care. The consortium leverages existing national registries, including the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) and a history of collaboration in Vascunet (a subcommittee of the European Society of Vascular Surgery formed to increase vascular disease knowledge and understanding and promote surgical excellence by means of international vascular audit). Currently, two sets of ICVR projects are underway that feature investigation of vascular intervention safety and efficacy: the ICVR Prospective AAA [Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm] Project (IPAP) and International Variations in Vascular Surgery (InVasc). The IPAP involves evaluation of AAA device performance for infrarenal AAA and juxtarenal aortic repair, while the three retrospective InVasc projects facilitate treatment comparison (open vs. interventional) and patient selection (symptoms, urgency and patient demographics) between and within countries.
