Patient-Centered Comparative Outcomes Research

Patient-Centered Comparative Outcomes researchers initiate, conduct and collaborate outcomes and quality-of-care research, within the context of interventional medicine and devices, to generate new medical technology knowledge and clinical strategies and improve care quality and efficiency. The program facilitates access to a number of data sets including Medicare data, New York State comprehensive discharge data, SEER-Medicare data for various cancer interventions, National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data as well as international registry data for various interventional procedures. With over 100 manuscripts published in the last five years, investigators from six clinical departments are actively engaged in research, including:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Vascular Surgery.
  • Urology.
  • Colon and Rectum Surgery.
  • Neurosurgery.
  • Radiology.

Separately, Patient-Centered Comparative Outcomes investigators have researched interventional outcomes with outside collaborators, resulting in over 55 publications in the past five years.

For selected device-specific publications, refer to the Medical Device Epidemiology Network (MDEpiNet) Claims-Based Research Initiative.

In the past two years, we have established productive partnerships with both J&J and Medtronic Inc. Titan Spine and ABIOMED collaborations are also under discussion.

Other Collaborating Partners

The Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Advanced Digestive Care Center is a leading multidisciplinary center for digestive disease diagnosis and treatment. As part of their mission to provide optimal patient care for all aspects of digestive disease in one convenient and comprehensive environment, Advanced Digestive Care Center representatives support and advance outcomes research.

WCM Minimally Invasive New Technologies (MINT) Program clinicians and engineers develop technologies that advance minimally invasive surgery worldwide. We support the MINT Program with outcomes research and analysis of device regulation and payment environments.
