The Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City is recruiting postdoctoral associates in its Division of Health Informatics in the field of mental health informatics. With training in health informatics, computational psychiatry, and data science, and experience in building novel data mining models, the Postdoctoral Associates will work under the supervision of Dr. Yunyu Xiao on social determinants of health and suicide prevention. In addition, the post-doc will join a vibrant team of health services researchers, computer scientists, informaticians, statisticians, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists. The post-doc will receive close mentorship for developing an independent research career and team science.
The research program of Dr. Yunyu Xiao’s lab at Weill Cornell has strong expertise and track records in mental health services and outcomes research. Ongoing projects focus on an R01 project (RF1MH134649-01) on “Leveraging Longitudinal Survey and EHR data to Dissect the Impact of COVID-19 related Stressors and Infections on Child Mental Health and Suicide Risks”. We are identifying social determinants of health-related suicide risks and prevention, utilizing state-of-art machine learning, natural language processing, geospatial data science, urban informatics, and social epidemiology methods. We are strengthening our research portfolio in enhancing mental health service implementation research and suicide prevention interventions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply data analytics, particularly machine learning, deep learning, and statistic techniques, to healthcare data (e.g., electronic health records, Medicaid), surveys (e.g., Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study), and social determinants of health (SDoH) data (e.g., administrative data, etc.).
- Participate in the design and execution of research studies to improve healthcare outcomes and clinical research.
- Collaborate with researchers and faculty members to publish research results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Communicate research findings to the broader scientific community through conference presentations.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and other funding applications.
Qualifications
- PhD in a health informatics, computational psychiatry, public health, health policy, health services research, economics, biostatistics, or related fields.
- Significant experience in data science techniques (particularly machine learning and deep learning, natural language processing, data mining, spatial network method) is required, ideally with published work and/or code available.
- Strong interest in mental health and substance use
- Expertise with programming experience in Python and/or R.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Experience analyzing large administrative data such as survey data, electronic health records, and insurance claims.
- Strong written- and oral-communication skills.
- Strong teamwork skills
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent in public health, health economics/services research, biomedical informatics, computer science, health information technology, biostatistics, data science, or a related field. Applicants should have an early record of significant research accomplishments as evidenced by work experience and publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and conferences in health informatics, computer sciences, public health, and mental health research. Strong working experience with electronic health records and insurance claims data, and programming with Stata/SAS, Python, or R is required. The successful candidate will also have a track record of working with an interdisciplinary team, excellent oral and written communication skills.
Salary established below per annum commensurate with qualifications experience:
$75,000-$88,000
